Delayed Baggage in India: The Claim Process

August 4, 2026·5 min read·ParcelGo Team

Baggage delays are a common issue for domestic and international travelers in India. Under DGCA directives, passenger rights are protected, and airlines must deliver delayed bags to your address. Here is how the process works in Indian airports.

1. Registering the Delay at the Airport

If your bags do not arrive on the conveyor belt, report the delay to the airline counter immediately. You must present your ticket and baggage tag sticker. The agent will check their system and file a Property Irregularity Report (PIR).

2. Claiming Emergency Purchases

If you are away from your home city, you are entitled to reimbursement for essential toiletries and clothing. Keep all bills and submit them to the airline along with your PIR reference code.

3. Home Delivery of Located Bags

Once the airline locates your bag, they are obligated to deliver it directly to your home or hotel address at no additional cost. Ask the airline baggage desk for a delivery timeline.
